NEW HEAD OF SAFETY EDUCATION FOR ROSPA
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has appointed Jean McEntire as head of its safety education department.
Jean, a former OFSTED inspector and schools adviser for Shropshire County Council, supported schools on national curriculum issues. She specialised in health education, citizenship and stress management.
She said: "I am very much looking forward to the challenge of raising awareness of RoSPA’s safety education policies.
"We need to support the education system in recognising the importance of safety education. All too often it has to take second place to high-profile media issues, such as drug and sex education.
"My aim is to motivate players in the education sector and ensure the issues are pushed forward in an interesting and exciting way.
"I cannot emphasise enough that the existing curriculum framework can house the vitally important safety education issues that are essential in children’s day-to-day lives."
Jean, who now lives in Birmingham, previously worked as a primary school teacher and a health promotion specialist in Derbyshire. She qualified in health education with an interest in drug and HIV-related issues.
