CONFERENCE LOOKS TO A SAFER FUTURE FOR SCOTLAND

The future vision of Scotland’s occupational health and safety is the subject of a two-day conference in Glasgow, organised by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

Topics up for discussion include stress at work, preparing young people for a life of work, and learning from accidents.

The RoSPA Scotland Occupational Health and Safety Congress will hear how the Scotland’s Health at Work Awards help improve bottom line performance by ensuring staff are ‘healthy, happy and here.’

Giving the explanation will be Evelyn Borland, Workplace Programme Manager, from Scotland’s Health at Work.

Roy Credland, from Cottam Power Station, will be speaking on ‘Why securing good information on past safety failures is so essential to future safety success.’

The congress, in association with ScottishPower and British Energy, takes place on Tuesday, September 14 and Wednesday, September, 15 at the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow.

Wednesday will also see the presentation of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety awards, sponsored by RMC, to companies in recognition of their commitment to raising health and safety standards.

Roger Bibbings, RoSPA Occupational Safety Adviser, said: "The congress is an opportunity for safety professionals to find out what is on the health and safety agenda for Scotland now and in the near future, and to network with other specialists in the field."

The congress is being held during Scotland’s Health at Work Week and is aimed at company directors, health and safety professionals, business advisers and risk managers.
