Accessibility
We have made every effort to make this site accessible and easy to use for everyone, no matter what browser you should choose to use, your speed of internet connection or if you suffer from any disabilities.
All pages on this site should be valid to HTML 4.01 Transitional the only exception being a <NOINDEX> tag used to eliminate repetition of navigational links within search results. The homepage uses valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional code and the site also uses valid CSS (Cascading Styles Sheets).
Links
Wherever possible links are written to make sense out of context enabling browsers such as JAWS, Lynx or Opera to extract a list of links on a page. Wherever possible link text is never duplicated on a page.
There are no links that open in new windows.
Images
All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
Visual Design
The site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. The site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified ‘text-size’ option in visual browsers. You can change your text settings through your browser options: in Internet Explorer, go to View > Text size and select your desired text size setting (eg. larger, smaller); in Netscape browsers go to View>Text size. Select a larger or smaller 'percentage' or click on 'larger'’ (or ‘smaller’) to go one size up or down.
File Sizes
Web page file sizes are limited to a maximum of 100kb. Downloadable files (in PDF format) are limited to a maximum file size of 500kb. There are exceptions, if you have problems downloading files larger than 500kb contact RoSPA (help@rospa.com) and we will endeavour to provide you with an alternative means of accessing the document.
Javascript
The use of Javascript on the RoSPA website has been kept to a minimum, disabling Javascript within your browser with not affect your use of the website. There are two instances where Javascript is used, firstly, the Quick Links drop-down list at the top of the left-hand navigation uses a Jump Menu function - with Javascript disabled, alternative means of navigation can be used. This same Javascript is used in several instances for lists of training courses and advice and information, again alternative means of navigation can be used. Secondly, each form on the website uses Javascript for form validation. With Javascript disabled, this validation will not work but your form will still be submitted successfully.
Forms
There are several forms on the RoSPA website (Training Course bookings, Membership application, Feedback and Contact forms). For the benefit of the mobility impaired, wIthin each form the Tab Order has been set enabling you to tab through the form to successive form elements. In addition Access Keys have been used, (again for each form element) beginning with A and progressing through the form using consecutive letters. Further information on the use of Access Keys is available.
